Appurtenances

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Mine Subsidence Insurance provides compensation not only for losses to buildings but also provides coverage for appurtenances to buildings. Appurtenances are defined as fences, retaining walls, paved or improved patios, walks, driveways, and in ground swimming pools. All appurtenances must be permanently affixed and securely attached to the land surface and adjacent to and used in conjunction with the part of the insured structure that is the building.

Losses to appurtenances is limited to 10% of the coverage amount. The insured building must be damaged by the same event before losses to appurtenances can be paid. Applicants are encouraged to purchase coverage in an amount sufficient to replace their structure plus 10% to cover appurtenances, or an amount that is equal to the policy limit of $500,000, which ever is less.
