Pennsylvania law requires that persons performing radon services (testing, mitigation, and/or device analysis) be certified by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). Only the owner or occupier of the building may test for or mitigate radon without certification. For example, real estate agents, home inspectors, or home buyers cannot perform radon testing unless certified to do so by the state. Home builders are exempt from certification when using measures to prevent radon contamination in newly constructed buildings prior to occupancy.
You are entitled to evidence of certification from any person who provides radon services.
All radon measurement and mitigation data will be sent to DEP as required in the law and will be kept confidential.
If you have any questions, comments, or complaints concerning persons who provide radon-related services, please contact us.
