DEP-Approved Exam/Course Information
Section 4.1 — DEPARTMENT-APPROVED EXAMS
The two department-approved exam providers are the:

- the Eastern Regional Radon Training Center (ERRTC), at (732) 445-2582 (for the written/paper version of either of these exams).

- Lasergrade at (800) 211-2745 or visit their website at LaserGrade.com (for the computer-based version of the NEHA exams).
- 4.1.1 For Individual Radon Testing Certification the following exams are acceptable:
- NEHA Basic Residential Measurement Exam
- NRSB Radon Measurement Specialist Exam
- 4.1.2 For DEP-listing as a Testing Firm Employee the following exams are acceptable:
- NEHA Basic Residential Measurement Exam
- NRSB Radon Measurement Specialist Exam
- NRSB Radon Measurement Technician Exam
- 4.1.3 For Individual Radon Mitigation Certification the following exams are acceptable:
- NEHA Basic Residential Mitigation Exam
- NRSB Radon Mitigation Specialist Exam
Section 4.2 — DEP-APPROVED COURSE INFORMATION
- 4.2.1 Initial testing/laboratory course requirement:
- All applicants for Pennsylvania radon testing and/or laboratory analysis certification must provide proof of having completed one of the following DEP-approved courses. Please contact each course provider for specific information about each course. See Section 4.3 for approved course list.
- 4.2.2 Initial mitigation course requirement:
- All applicants for Pennsylvania radon mitigation certification applicants must provide proof of having completed one of the following DEP-approved courses. Please contact each course provider for specific information about each course. See Section 4.4 for approved course list.
- 4.2.3 Continuing education course requirement:
- All renewal applicants for Pennsylvania radon testing, mitigation, and/or laboratory analysis certification must provide proof of having completed one of the following within the past two years. See Section 4.5 for approved course list.
- 4.2.3.1 For testing/laboratory individual renewals
- passing a Department-approved radon exam (See Sections 4.1.1, 4.1.2 and 4.1.3, above)
-OR-
- having completed 16 hours of DEP-approved continuing education from the enclosed list of approved course providers.
- 4.2.3.2 For mitigation individual renewals
- passing a Department-approved radon mitigation exam (See Sections 4.1.1, 4.1.2 and 4.1.3, above)
-OR-
- having completed 16 hours of DEP-approved continuting education from the enclosed list of approved course providers.
- 4.2.4 Continuing Education Credit Criteria
- Formal classroom, hands-on, correspondence, and video radon courses
- If DEP-approved, one (1) hour for each hour of course work
- If not DEP-approved, one (1) hour is given for every two (2) hours of verified radon-related course work.
- Radon-related symposium/conference attendance
- One (1) hour for every two (2) hours attended.
- Techincal papers written and presented formally or as a poster session at a conference
- Four (4) hours per paper. Credit given for the first presentation only.
- Radon article published in a technical presentation
- One (1) hour of credit for each published page of the article up to a maximum of four (4) credits per article.
- Public outreach radon presentations
- One (1) hour per presentation with a maximum of four (4) credits per two-year period.
- Instruction
- Two (2) hours of credit granted for each hour of instruction per radon training course. No additional credit awarded for teaching the same course.
- Attendance at local/regional meetings of professional/trade associations
- One (1) credit hour per meeting with a maximum of four (4) hours per two-year period.
- Degree programs and formal post-secondary course work in science, engineering, or related field
- Determined by the Department on a case-by-case basis.
- 4.2.5 Approved course provider requirement:
- All persons desiring to become DEP-approved course providers must submit a complete application for each course. Please contact our Department for a copy of this application.
- If you are not currently listed as a DEP-approved course provider you mkust submit a course provider fee of $374.00 every two years. This fee is only due one every 2 years no matter how many initial or continuing education courses you submit or are approved for.
