Certification Renewals
Section 1.1.13--Certification Renewals

A renewal application is an application where the Department permits the applicant to rely on some information previously submited, if the information remains the same. The required contents of a renewal application is described in Section 2.2, "Renewal Radon Certification Application Instructions."

In order to avoid a lapse in certification, applicants for certification renewal should file their application a minimum of 30 days prior to the expiration of their current certification. Submitting a renewal application does not extend the previous certification.

Submission of a renewal application simplifies the application process for the applicant because the Department permits the applicant to rely on some information previously submitted. In evaluating what certification materials are required from an applicant, the Department considers the timelinessof the renewal application. It is expected that applicants for certification renewal will submit their renewal applications prior to the expiration of their current certification. A person may not provide radon-related services without current certification. For applicatinos from radon service providers which are submitted after the expiration of their certification, the Department will use the following criteria to determine what certification materials are required of the applicant:

  1. Application received within 60 days after expiration of certification -- Treat as a 'Renewal' application. Require materials for a 'Renewal' application.

  2. Application received between 61 days and 1 year after expiration of certification -- Treat as an 'Initial' application. Require materials for an 'Initial' application, with the provision that either proof of having taken and passed a Department approved exam within the past two years, or proof of having completed 16 hours of continuing education within the past two years will be accepted to fulfill the Department-approved exam requirement.

  3. Application received more than 1 year after expiration of certification -- Treat as an 'Initial' application. Require materials for an 'Initial' application (which must include proof of having passed a Department-approved exam within the past two years.)
