Radiation Protection Statutes and Regulations

The following list contains a very brief description of selected Pennsylvania Statutes utilized by the Bureau of Radiation Protection. Each statute generally includes a program authorization, funding, advisory committees, compliance and enforcement elements including fees.

Pennsylvania Statutes

Appalachian States Low Level Radioactive Waste Compact Act, Act 1985-120
- Required Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and West Virginia to construct a low-level radioactive waste disposal facility.
Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Act, Act 1988-12
Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Regional Facility Act, Act 1990-107
- Establishes a low-level radioactive waste management program.
Radiation Protection Act, Act 1984-147
- Establishes the radiation protection program including licensing and registration, nuclear safety program, emergency response capability and remediation action programs.
Administrative Code Amendments to the Radiation Protection Act
- Act 1990-67
- Act 1992-180
  - Amended the Radiation Protection Act fee structure by moving some fees to the Administrative Code.

Radon Certification Act, Act 1987-43
- Establishes radon testing, licensing and certification program.
