Major Source and Area Source Programs
National
Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants
Standards that involve the use of Maximum
Achievable Control Technology to reduce major point source
and area source emissions of toxic air pollutants.
New
Source Performance Standards
Regulations that affect new sources of toxic
pollutants (and some existing sources) involving medical waste incinerators,
landfills, municipal waste combustors, steam generating boilers.
Small Business Assistance Program
This program assists small businesses with regulatory
compliance, provides information about cost saving pollution prevention
practices, and ensures that small business are considered when new
regulations are developed.
Energy
and Technology Development
By identifying opportunities for businesses
to conserve energy, resources, and minimize waste, not only increases
productivity and profits, but reduces emissions of undesired pollution.
Design
for the Environment
Program works with several industry sectors
to identify cost-effective alternatives to existing products and
processes that reduce risks to workers and the environment while
maintaining or improving performance and product quality.
Clean Mower Rebate
A program to trade in old, polluting gas mowers
and weed trimmers, for a rebate for a environment-friendy electric
mower.
Mobile Source Programs
Vehicle Emission
Testing
An inspection program to ensure a vehicle's
pollution control system is functioning properly.
Reformulated
Gas
Regulations that require gasoline to be "reformulated"
with oxygenates so as to result in significant reductions in vehicle
emissions of ozone-forming and toxic air pollutants.
Stage
II Vapory Recovery Systems
A system designed to capture gasoline vapors
that would otherwise escape into the atmosphere as vehicles are
refueled.
Tier
2 and Low
Sulfur Gasoline
New tailpipe emissions standards for all passenger
vehicles, including sport utility vehicles (SUVs), minivans, vans
and pick-up trucks, as well as, new standards to reduce the sulfur
content of gasoline by up to 90 percent, which will ensure the effectiveness
of low emission-control technologies in vehicles and reduce harmful
air pollution.
Diesel
Emissions and Fuel
Rules for the first phase of a two-part strategy
to significantly reduce harmful diesel emissions from heavy-duty
trucks and buses, as well as, new quality requirements for diesel
fuel to enable the use of a new generation of emission control technologies
for diesel engines.
