These three sites are part of the Southern Delaware County Air Monitoring Project. In 1995, DEP, working with EPA Region III, began measuring the concentrations of certain pollutants in the ambient air of Chester and Marcus Hook, located in southern Delaware County. The goal was to learn more about the air quality in the area and assess the risk of certain pollutants. A third site located at Swarthmore was added to the study to provide a comparison to Chester and Marcus Hook. Swarthmore is located in the same air basin, but not as close to large industrial sources.
