| The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Agency for Toxic
Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), requested the DEP perform ambient air
sampling in Taylor Borough. The data will help determine effects, if any, on public
health in areas surrounding the Alliance Landfill. DEP has installed and
is operating an ambient sampling site located off of Keyser Ave. in Taylor. The
station is centrally located (approximately) between the Alliance Landfill, ERSI
Landfill, the Pennsylvania Turnpike and other commercial properties adjacent to
Keyser Avenue and Union Street. The equipment at this site collects meteorological
data, continuously monitors for hydrogen sulfide (H2S)
and sulfur dioxide (SO2) and includes a high volume
air sampling unit to determine the amount of total suspended particulate and various
metals in the air. DEP staff installed, calibrated, and maintains the sampling
equipment and meteorological equipment. The DEP will compile the data on a regular
basis and provide it to ATSDR for analysis. Site Data
