Monitoring Toxic Pollutants

West Chester Toxic Monitoring Site

Image of a volatile organic compound sampler. Image of a carbonyl sampler. A special canister to hold air samples.

To date, ambient air toxic sampling has focused on urban areas or sites impacted by large sources. More information was needed on suburban and small metropolitan areas. The monitoring site located at the West Chester University fit the above criteria and provided research and educational opportunities for students.

Note: Nearby construction forced the West Chester site to discontinue operation at the end of 2003.
