This video shows some of the capabilities of the robot that was used to clean up high levels of contamination in Cell 4 at the Quehanna Site. The video starts with a general view of the robot from the track system that moves the robot around to the manipulator arm that performed all the tool handling. You will then see a couple of different views of the robot using a standard grinding wheel to cut and remove the stainless steel walls. Next, the manipulator hand demonstrates why it was a useful tool for many functions including handling the pieces of steel wall as they were cut loose. In the final two clips, the robot was used to handle tools to both crimp and cut process tubing that potentially contained large quantities of strontium-90. The crimping process compresses the tubes to reduce the chances of any material being released. The cutting tool was then used to cut the tubes into small sections to be placed in a storage container.
