finished compost screen   ½" mesh "hardware cloth" can be used to screen finished compost, producing a nursery-quality mulch. This compost screener makes the work a bit easier.

4 - 2" x 4" x 8’ boards
1 roll hardware cloth, 3’ x 5’ x 1/2" mesh
2 - 3/8" x 3 ½" hex bolts
2 - 3/8" hex nuts
6 - 5/16" washers
34 - 2" galvanized deck screws
16 - 3 ½" galvanized deck screws
3/8" staples

 

Tools
Circular saw w/ carbide-tipped blade
Variable speed drill
1/8" drill bit
3/8" drill bit
1" spade bit
Phillips screw bit
Ratchet w/ 9/16" socket
Staple gun
Tape measure
Combination square

saw the wood   Cut the end pieces (36"), side pieces (57") and cross piece (33") to length, then rip to a 2 ¾" width, leaving ¾" strips that will secure the hardware cloth to the frame.
