Collection Alternatives

Collection is one of the most important and costly aspects of yard waste management systems. Alternatives range from curbside collection to drop-off centers.

Curbside Collection Approaches

Bulk: Loose leaves can be picked up using a front-end loader, vacuum equipment or leaf loading systems.

Bagged: Yard waste can be collected in regular plastic garbage bags or degradable plastic or paper bags.

Containerized: Wheeled carts, large bins and other containers can be used for yard waste collection.

Drop-off Collection

Drop-offs: Drop-offs can be set up at transfer points or a central processing facility. Drop-off programs can reduce operating costs, but may result in lower participation because they are not as convenient as curbside pickup.
