Recycling Plan

Under legislation extending the Act 101 Recycling Fee, Act 175 of December 9, 2002 charges DEP with developing a recycling plan to assist municipalities with making recycling programs under Act 101 financially self-sufficient.

DEP has begun the planning process and has scheduled meetings with the State Solid Waste Planning Subcommittee of the Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC) as a means to ensure meaningful comment to the draft plan. Three subcommittee meetings have been scheduled: March 13, April 10 and June 12, 2003, with the initial meeting to be held in Room 105 of the Rachel Carson State Office Building, 400 Market St., Harrisburg.

DEP intends to present a draft plan to both SWAC and the Recycling Fund Advisory Committee (RFAC) at the July 10, 2003 meeting in Harrisburg. DEP expects to offer the final draft plan to the general public in the fall of 2003 following incorporation of both committees' comments. The final report is due to the Legislature by December 9, 2003.
