Bluestone Mining Both of these photos are from a site in Susquehanna County and depict mining of the Catskill Formation, Devonian age siltstone which splits along a flat plane and is known as "bluestone" or "flagstone". Stone is removed by cutting with a rock saw. Saw cuts can be seen on the flat in the top picture. Stacked pallets of the finished product are shown in the bottom photo. |
