Independent Studies on the Effects of Longwall Mining

As part of DEP’s ongoing efforts to study and document the impacts of subsidence from full-extraction, or longwall coal mining, DEP has commissioned four independent, scientific studies.  DEP is using the information from these studies to improve the permitting and inspection procedures for longwall mines.

Remote Sensing of Forestland Above Longwall Mining Areas in Washington and Greene Counties (March 2001)

Effects of Undermining Interstate 70, South Strabane Township, Washington County
