This manual was written for and by colleges and universities
from across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Its purpose
is to serve as a guide to help colleges and universities
to minimize the environmental impact on their campuses.
The manual strives to preserve the health and safety
of students, faculty and all other employees as well.
This manual is an interactive version of the of the
Best Management Practices Manual. It provides a framework
for an Environmental Management System (EMS) that can
be adapted into your institution’s practices. When
integrating an EMS, you gain environmental compliance,
pollution prevention and continuous environmental improvement.
Such conditions can lead to cost savings and economic
benefits.
This manual should be your guide to increasing the implementation
of environmental practices on your campus. The manual
can simply be a starting place for you to gather information
on best management practices or a starting point to further
your knowledge with and help you to develop a well-rounded
Environmental Management System. The online, interactive
manual is embedded with links to numerous other helpful
pages to provide instantaneous references for the techniques
and practices described. If you would prefer a printed
