"DEP's Regional Roundtables bring varied and interesting programs, which
are significant to our particular region, including the most up-to-date air quality
information and workshops on managing and minimizing metalworking fluids and wastewater.
Other recent meetings have included building a statewide environmental assistance network,
Conrail's pollution prevention program, Total Cost Accounting and the findings of the 21st
Century Environment Commission. No one is ever disappointed with the substance."

Peer-to-Peer Education Through
the sharing of real-life examples, businesses and regulatory agencies can learn from one
another about strategies to improve their companies' environmental performance, while
reducing corporate expenditure. In collaboration with the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business
and Industry, the Pennsylvania Manufacturers Association, the National Federation of
Independent Businesses and many other corporate partners, DEP formed Regional Pollution
Prevention Roundtables throughout the Commonwealth in 1997.
Each of the six DEP regional offices approached businesses in local communities to host
the roundtables, give presentations on their best pollution prevention and energy
efficiency business practices, mentor other companies who wish to follow suit, and
introduce pollution prevention and energy efficiency practices to suppliers.
Programs covered the implementation of ISO 14000, cost-effective
methods to identify environmental aspects and improve performance, environmental
accounting principles, materials recycling, the AFIG Program, PEAN, pollution
prevention approaches to Clean Air Act requirements, environmental management systems,
volatile organic compound emissions reductions and the Chesapeake Bay Program. |
