Pennsylvania officially launched its EMS Pilot Projects at a ceremony on February 17, 1999. The four pilot facilities are:
Klein Plating Works, Inc. is an electoplating company located in Erie, PA. The company employs 65 people. It became ISO 9000 certified in June 1998 and joined Pennsylvania's MSWG pilot project in November 1998.
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is responsible for the construction and maintenance of Pennsylvania's highways, issuing driver's licences and vehicle registrations and managing various Commonwealth-wide policies regarding rail, aviation and mass transit. The Department is seeking ISO 14001 certification as well as striving to become the first state agency to meet the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award requirements.
Pittsburgh International Airport The Pittsburgh International Airport is administered by the Allegheny County Department of Aviation. The airport serves over 100 tenants, ranging from airlines like U.S. Airways to restaurants and shops. The airport is partnering with U.S. Airways and other tenants to design and implement its EMS. They are especially interested in land use planning for the 10,000 acre property.
World Resources Company of Pottsville removes metals from hazardous waste materials for recycling. The company became the first recycler to receive ISO 14001 certification in August 1998 and joined the MSWG pilot project in December 1998. |
