Use Less Energy

Coal fired power plants are a major source of mercury pollution.  Reducing demand for electric power means less mercury is emitted into the environment from power plants.

Using energy efficient fluorescent lamps instead of incandescent light bulbs is one way to reduce energy use.  Reduced mercury fluorescent lamps are available.  For more information concerning energy efficiency, contact the United States Department of Energy World Wide Web site at http://www.eren.doe.gov .

**At this time mercury recycling for many items is not available to the general public in Pennsylvania.  Watch for P3ERIE mercury collections and contact the DEP 814-332-6839 for more information.
