PAIOF Fact Sheet

Victaulic - NICE³ Innovative Technology: Victaulic Company, located in Alburtis PA, recently installed and is operating an innovative technology that is resulting in cleaner air inside the foundry while increasing their sand recycling system recovery rate and reducing waste disposal to the landfill. Metlab-Petero - NICE³ Innovative Technology: Commercialization of Vanadium-Carbide Technology at Metlab-Potero:  Metlab - Potero Company, located in Wyndmoor, PA, recently installed and is operating an innovative heat treatment surface coating process that has demonstrated very significant energy and waste reduction benefits by extending the wear life of industrial parts and tools.  In one case, the treatment process increased part life by 600 percent, changing the cause of part failure from wear to metal fatigue.  This single improvement saved the parts manufacturer nearly $200,000 in replacement parts.  Funded through DOE's National Industrial Competitiveness through Energy, Environment, and Economics (NICE3) program, the 3-year vanadium-carbide demonstration project easily out-performed traditional and more costly heat-treating technologies.  More...

Metalcasting Best Practices: DEP and the PA metalcasting community is working towards creating a metalcasting best practices program. The program will include annual workshops and a website highlighting best practices information to provide an interactive roadmapping legacy for metal casters. The objectives for this best practices program is to encourage and leverage participation in existing state and federal energy and environmental audit programs so as to maximize their benefit to the metalcasting industry. Other objectives are to conduct hands-on best practices works visits with small groups of non-competing foundry executives to share technical, environmental and management best practices, and to respond to requests for energy saving, pollution prevention and technical information from Pennsylvania metal casters.
