Professional Interests
Before joining the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh
in 1960, Dr. Chiang worked as a project engineer with the
Union Carbide Corporation. He has been active in international
education and served as a visiting professor at several
leading foreign universities including: Cambridge University,
England; Santa Maria University, Chile; and National Central
University, Taiwan, ROC. Currently, he holds an Honorary
Professorship at the Nanjing University of Chemical Technology,
People’s Republic of China. He received the 1999 McAfee
Award from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
Professor Chiang is one of the nation’s
leading experts in separation technologies. His recent work
focuses on:
Fluid/particle processing and separation
Development of a multi-stage loop-flow flotation
column (MSTLFLO process) and its applications to environmental
and energy systems
Pilot scale testing of a liquid carbon dioxide-based
technology (LICADO Process) for soil remediation and fine
coal cleaning
Hydrodynamic and kinetic modeling of fluid-particle
systems
