The Environmental Stewardship Fund was created under the Growing
Greener legislation to provide grants to a county or other
municipality, municipal authorities and school districts for water
and wastewater facilities that among other things install or
implement new or innovative technologies in their operation. During
the first round of funding in 2000, the Department opened the
program to any project meeting the general program requirements with
priority for those that were ready to begin construction. The second
round of funding in 2002 targeted the installation of technologies
to reduce nutrient discharges from publicly owned treatment plants
in the Chesapeake Bay drainage area to help fulfill the
Commonwealth's commitment to the Chesapeake Bay 2000 Agreement. The
third round of funding in 2003 again opened the program to any
project meeting the general program requirements with priority going
to the following projects: water reuse, ground water under the
direct influence of surface water, nitrate removal in drinking
water, nutrient
reduction, and infiltration/Inflow.
After completed
projects have been in operation for at least six months, applicants
are to submit a final report. As reports are submitted, they will be
included on this web site.
