Should my public water supplier develop a Source Water Protection Plan? Back to
Other Common Questions

Pennsylvania’s Source Water Protection Program is voluntary. It was designed that way because this program emphasizes local control over local water quality issues. Source water protection is a process by which you identify where water comes from (delineate the SWP area) and then look for potential threats to your water within the identified area (contaminant source inventory). If potential contaminants are identified, you may manage those risks in order to protect your water supply.

Source water protection is a logical set of steps taken to protect your water supply. If you like this concept, establishing a SWP plan is an excellent idea for your water system. Remember, prevention is cheaper than clean up!
