Chairperson, Nick Mobilia, began the meeting and introduced new committee members, Dave Skellie and John Walliser.Minutes: The June 8, 2004 minutes were discussed. No official action taken, due to lack of quorum.
Statewide Committee Meeting Summary: Tom Fuhrman attended the Statewide committee meeting at DEP in July for Matt Wolford. Tom presented a brief summary of the statewide committee discussion and provided an update on the information that was presented from the Policy and Integration and the Critical Water Planning Area subcommittees. In addition, Bill Gast answered questions from the regional committee pertaining to Critical Water Planning Areas and water use registration. Committee member Bill Gough volunteered to participate as Matt Wolford's designee on the Critical Water Planning Area subcommittee, and Craig Kern offered to participate as an alternate to Bill. Matt Wolford will continue to participate in the discussions of the Policy and Integration subcommittee.
Public Participation and Outreach: Tom Fuhrman and Lori Mohr presented the committee with the final version of the Universal Message document that was approved by the statewide committee and developed by the public participation subcommittee. The regional committee then discussed potential regional stakeholders and created a list that will be distributed to all committee members to add contact information to. The Universal Message will be sent to all of the regional stakeholders in mid-September.
Great Lakes Annex Implementing Documents
Lori Boughton and Bill Gast explained to the group that the Great Lakes Annex Implementing documents were released by the Great Lakes states and Canadian provinces in draft form in July. Public comments are currently being accepted by the Council of Great Lakes Governors. Lori mentioned that there will be several meetings open to the public to discuss the documents. DEP will hold a public meeting on September 30th, 2004 at Headwaters Park in Erie. It was suggested that a separate meeting be held for the Regional committee, to discuss the possibility of providing comments to the Council of Great Lakes Governors as a committee. Jack Fleckenstein, of the Potter County Conservation District, gave a presentation detailing the Genessee Watershed Association and various projects that have been performed to improve conditions in the watershed.October Meeting
The next regularly scheduled committee meeting will be held on October 12, 2004, at Headwaters Park in Erie. The meeting adjourned to a field trip conducted by Potter County Commissioner, John Torok.
