The Technical Advisory Committee on Diesel-Powered Equipment (TAC) held a regular meeting on October 22 in the Fayette County Health Center in Uniontown at 12 p.m.

Minutes of the September 22 meeting were approved.

Gene Davis reported meeting with the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) National Hazmat Program representatives in Beckley. He provided the IUOE recommendation for a training program to satisfy the requirements of Section 211-A(c), "specially-trained" in the disposal and clean up of diesel fuel spills.

A lengthy discussion ensued on whether hazardous worker training was the intent of this section. The TAC members will draft a letter on the issue to Richard Stickler.

The TAC discussed the diagnostic testing criteria under Section 218-A. No official action was taken.

A short discussion was held on Section 203-A, quality control plans and diesel fuel constituents. No action was taken.

New Business:

Mr. Joseph Caldwell, Rohmac, Inc., indicated that several engines with diesel particulate filter will be tested at West Virginia University in their lab by Dr. Gautum. He invited the TAC to witness the test. He will provide additional information to the liaisons.

Meeting dates for 1998 were established. Meetings will be held on January 21, April 15, July 15, and October 21.
