2. Municipality Maps
We have an extensive collection of underground coal mine maps and mining information covering the 43 counties in the anthracite and bituminous coal regions of Pennsylvania. This collection dates from the late 1700’s through the present-day active operations. In order to make these maps more accessible to the citizens of Pennsylvania we are working to compile and convert this collection to digital format.
At this time, we have digital versions of maps that show mined areas for eleven counties in the bituminous coal region of southwestern Pennsylvania. As mapping is compiled and converted to digital format for additional counties they will be added to this site.
Scanning of the underground mine maps of the anthracite coal fields has begun in preparation for the mined areas to be converted to digital format. Once the mined areas are converted, digital maps will be created and made available for the anthracite region of Pennsylvania.
If your home is located in one of the counties listed below, simply click on the county name, then select your municipality and check the map* to see if your home is undermined.
The gray areas on the maps represent general mined areas. If your home is on or near the gray areas, you should consider purchasing Mine Subsidence Insurance.
