2011 Grant Announcement

The solicitation period for 2011-2013 Coastal Zone grants opened on August 16, 2010 and will continue through October 15, 2010. This year, all applications must be submitted electronically through the new Environmental eGrants System. Revised Grant Application Instructions have also been posted online. Draft Section 309 Assessment and Strategy of Pennsylvania's Coastal Resources Management Program

Pennsylvania's Coastal Resources Management Program has conducted a reassessment of nine priority enhancement areas pursuant to Final Section 309 Guidance published by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (July 2009). Section 309 of the Coastal Zone Management Act, as amended in 1990 and 1996 (PL 104-540) [revised by PL 96-464; PL 101-508], encourages states to revise their previous 309 Assessments and develop new Strategies to achieve program changes in one or more of the coastal zone enhancement areas:

  • Coastal wetlands
  • Coastal hazards
  • Public access
  • Marine debris
  • Cumulative and secondary impacts
  • Special area management planning
  • Ocean/Great Lakes resources
  • Energy and government facility siting and activities
  • Aquaculture

The Coastal Resources Management Program will be accepting comments on this draft Assessment and Strategy through August 2, 2010.

Final Great Lakes Withdrawal, Consumptive Use, and Diversion Baseline

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has establish a final "baseline" of existing withdrawals, consumptive uses and/or diversions of Great Lakes Basin water for affected facilities or systems as of December 2008. This information reflects the data related to those facilities or systems that are currently on record within the Department. The baseline amount assigned to each Great Lakes Basin water user will be used to determine what is a new or increased withdrawal, consumptive use or diversion of Great Lakes Basin water in the future.

The upcoming solicitation period for 2010-2012 Coastal Zone grants will open on August 24, 2009 and continue through October 23, 2009. This year, all applications must be submitted electronically through the new Environmental eGrants System. Revised Grant Application Instructions have also been posted online.

The CRM program will be hosting eGrants informational sessions in both coastal zones. The first session will be held at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center (TREC), Room 108 in Erie on Thursday, September 3 at 1:00 PM. The address is 301 Peninsula Drive, Erie, PA 16505. The second session will be held at the Philadelphia State Office Building, Betsy Ross Room #6069 on Tuesday, September 8 at 9:30 AM. The address is 801 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107.
